"Welcome to my home Magi! I'm the famous Z'Nort, known through the kingdom for my collection of wonderful items." -Z'Nort

Z’Nort is the groundskeeper for the crypt and the area around it, serving under The Dark One. He could be found in his hut near the stone circle. Z'Nort was only ever seen for a short time near the opening of the Myrtle Beach, SC location. He was not part of any adventure or quest. Instead, his encounter was a mini-game that Magi could play together. The goal was to cast at an ingredient in his hut and then the cauldron in order to help him create the world's biggest fart.[1] The mini-game would award players with gold. In May 2009 he was replaced by the Heroes Podium, which would go on to be upgraded into the Web Portal.

Personality and Origins[]

At some point before any player visits MagiNation, Z'Nort was erupted at the gas swamps, but was taken in by The Dark One.[2] The Dark One recalls the day as one he'll never forget, seeing Z'Nort "wart up to his neck in slime bubbles." After being taken in, Z'Nort was given the job of being the crypt's groundskeeper in exchange for having three meals a day. However, The Dark One notes that he also would whip Z'Nort, showing that their relationship wasn't the most friendly. In Z'Nort's own words, The Dark One "works [him] to the bone."[3] The Dark One's side of the story contradicts this, saying that the Crypt barely ever gets cleaned, and that he only sees Z'Nort working on his collection of gross items.

Z'Nort spent most of this time in his hut, bringing in Magi to help him collect disgusting things from around the area. From his home, he ran a business called Z'Nort's Gross Goodies. One can imagine what the catalog would look like, but Z'Nort happily shares more information than most would want about his "masterpieces". At the time, he looked forward to the idea of making it big in the world, and daydreamed of having his own TV show. A particular show he shows interest in is The Apprentice, as he has a wig of the show's host and does an impression of them.

Going further with his desire for money and business growth, Z'Nort does play a minor role in the Unicorn Adventure. The Dark One claims that it was actually Z'Nort's idea to steal the Unicorn's star, and that he thought it was a bad idea the whole time. Z'Nort's goal was to sell it to gypsies or on eBay with a hefty price tag.

The MagiQuest website's description of Z'Nort tells of what happens to him after his departure. It states that he successfully strikes out on his own to become a merchant in the Land of Shadows.[4] He presumably no longer serves The Dark One.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Z'Nort is one of few non-human characters shown wielding a wand. Z'Nort is a magi himself, and while it's unknown what runes he may have collected, he is able to preform simple magic.

Removal and Planned Re-Introduction[]

Z'Nort's removal from the game could be for a variety of reasons, but none are confirmed. Some suggest that it was because his personality was seen as immature and generally unappealing. The most popular theory is that his mini-game was scrapped because of it conflicting with the design of the rest of MagiQuest. Every other encounter station in the game requires Magi to wait in line for their turn, while Z'Nort's station was an activity that players were all supposed to play at the same time. This is further backed up by the scrapped plans to re-introduce the game.

Plans show that Z'Nort was supposed to be re-worked into becoming part of a Master Magi rune quest in 2008. In the new quest, Bartholomew would inform Magi of a special rune with dueling powers, and direct them to Z'Nort's area. The name of the rune was not shared, and was simply marked with a "Z." Instead of the mini-game always running, Z'Nort would instead need to be summoned for the game to start. It would play out similar to how it did before, but with participants now aiming to collect ingredients for the Fart Rune. After the game ended, Bartholomew would explain the dueling powers of the new rune, though the exact function was never decided on. Additionally, after collecting the rune, all lanterns that the owner casted at would play a fart sound. This concept was never implemented into the game, however, and the Fart Rune would never be fully realized.
